Technical expertise: Measurement of 13C in exhaled breath (CO2) in real time (e.g., CRDS) and discrete (e.g., IRMS) sampling protocols.

Organs of interest: Whole Organisms (Humans, Rodents, Birds, Reptiles, Insects, Microbes)

Research focus: Using 13C-tracers to explore the oxidative fates of dietary nutrients (e.g., fatty acids, amino acids, carbohydrates) during different nutritional states (e.g., feeding and fasting) and other non-steady states (e.g., exercise, infection, reproduction). Using 13C-tracers to study the mobilization and subsequent utilization of endogenous macromolecules to meet total energy demands.
